FG Considers Lockdown Of 18 Local Govt Areas With High Burden

Federal Government may introduce a lockdown of the 18 Local Government Areas considered to account for 60 per cent of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria in the next phase of eased lockdown in the country.

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, who gave the indication while addressing State House correspondents after leading some members of the task force to brief President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday in Abuja explained that the precision lockdown would be implemented by the government of the states where the 18 local governments reside.

Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that PTF Boss also explained that compared to other countries with similar climatic characteristics, the mortality rate of the disease in Nigeria is low due to the age bracket of most of those infected by the virus.

He urged all citizens including religious and traditional leaders to ensure compliance with non-pharmaceutical interventions.
