NASS Leadership Directs Mgt C'ttee To Address Issues of Protesting Staff

Following the shutdown of legislative activities by protesting Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, have directed the National Assembly Management Committee headed by the Clerk, Alhaji Sani Omolori, to immediately resolve all issues raised by protesting members of staff and report back to them by Friday.

The Senate President while addressing the protesting workers expressed solidarity with the staff, assuring them that all issues bordering on the non-payment of outstanding salaries and other entitlements would be resolved. The Majority Leaders of the Senate and the House of Representatives, Sen. Ahmed Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamilia, also made similar appeals and assurances at a joint media briefing. Sen. Lawan appealed to the aggrieved workers to shelve their picketing so as to enable the lawmakers to sit to address the issues at plenary. Honourable Gbajabiamila explained that the protest was against the management and not the leadership of the Assembly assuring that their demands will be properly addressed.

Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that PASAN had raised a number of issues which icludes the non-implementation of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS), non-payment of promoted officers based on their salary grade levels and non-implementation of their condition of service amongst others.
