Senate Mandates Committee To Investigate SARS

The Senate has mandated the Ad-hoc Committee on security to investigate the alleged human rights abuse and extra-judicial killing by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and make useful recommendations. Sequel to a point of order 42 and 52 raised by ‎‎Senator Isah Misau from Bauch Central, who lamented the recent happenings with the SARS and the public outcry which he said calls for urgent intervention.

In his remarks‎, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, stated that the Senate has already set up an Ad-hoc Committee to look at the security infrastructure in the Country, adding that it is appropriate for the same committee to look into the matter as an additional mandate. He adviced the Committee on security to take action, to quickly find a solution to the problems.

Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that #EndSARSNow has generated a lot of debate about the unwholesome acts of the Special Anti-robbery Squad prompting the  Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to order reorganisation of the Unit rather than scrap it.
