COVID-19: Delta Variant Present in 21 African Countries, as over 153,000 have died so far - WHO

The World Health Organization WHO in its latest update have said that the third wave of the Covid-19 virus has continued in its destructive partway pushing past yet another milestone as the African continent case count tops 6 Million infections.

 

The World Health Organization WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, who gave the update during a virtual press conference noted that Africa still faces challenges in terms of COVID-19 case management, as well as COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

 

Dr Moeti however noted that the number of deaths in the continent have risen representing 40 percent in the past five weeks while warning that hospitals are at a breaking point which has resulted in the death of over a hundred and fifty three thousand persons.

 

She further emphasized that Africa needs to prioritize the boosting production of oxygen to address its insufficiency and save more lives.
