Brevicoryne brassicae is an aphid species that feeds primarily on crucifers in all temperate and tropical regions of the world. The cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae, is a pest of many plants of the Brassicaceae family including cabbage, Brassica oleracea Linnaeus, 1753. Abstract The literature concerning the breeding of brassicas resistant to cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae L.) and the interaction between different cultivars and various populations of the insect is reviewed. According to this pest rapid resistance to insecticide, using the resistant cultivars should be evaluated. Among all, the cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae) and the mustard aphid (Lipaphis erysimi) are considered damageful. The cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (L.) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), is an important pest in Brassicae. Distribution: The species is found worldwide, in South-Eastern European countries it can be found across the entire country. undecimpunctata L., and Scymnus interruptus L. were studied in relation to energy reserve in tissues of the cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (Lin.). The Mealy aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae)is a destructive aphid (plant louse) native to Europe that is now found in many other areas of the world. Leaves distorted and discoloured on young plants Caused by A sap-sucking insect The aphid attacks canola before and during flowering. The wingless form has globulous body, 2.1-2.6 mm long, greenish-yellow coloured, covered in a white-grey waxy secretion. Cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli were susceptible host plants for the cabbage aphid. OCKENDON, B.M. Cabbage aphid – Brevicoryne brassicae. General information about Brevicoryne brassicae (BRVCBR) Name Language; cabbage aphid: English: grey cabbage aphid: English: mealy cabbage aphid Brevicoryne brassicae (L.) So here is the gardener’s dreaded cabbage aphid; in fact it is probably dreaded by grocers as well, since it can sometimes be found deep inside heads of broccoli on supermarket shelves. Common name Mealy cabbage aphid Latin name Brevicoryne brassicae Plants affected Cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprout, swede and other brassicas Main symptoms Greyish white aphids cluster underneath the leaves and on growing points. In: Bei-Bienko G.Ya., ed. Hafez (1961) The aphids feed on many varieties of produce, including cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and many other members of the genus Brassica, but do not feed on plants outside of the Cruciferae family. The sex pheromone of the cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae, is shown by GC and GC-MS analysis of pheromone entrained from sexual females, and by electrophysiological studies on single cell preparations from male antennae, to comprise (4aS,7S,7aR)-nepetalactone. In most instances outbreaks are normally kept under control by application of insecticides. Brevicoryne brassicae (L.) The cabbage aphid,Brevicoryne brassicae (L.) (Homoptera, Aphididae), a pest on many cruciferous crops is distributed throughout all the temperate and warm temperate regions of the world. Cabbage Aphid. Host associations. The cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae, is scattered in many parts of the world (Rivnay 1962) and is present in most parts of Iran, especially in the central areas (Khanjani 2006).Different plants belonging to the crucifer family (Brassicaceae) act as a host for this aphid. The field experiments consisted of the evaluation of the proportion of dead aphids on cabbage plants after application of agave extracts. Originally from the Palaearctic, this species has invaded almost all parts of North America. For many organisms which cannot internally regulate their own temperature, development is dependent on temperatures to which they are exposed in the environment.
