The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has barred the Nigeria Police Force from parading persons suspected to have committed a crime.
Senior police officers says they were informed of the development earlier this month or thereabouts.
When contacted, the Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the police would issue a statement on the ban at the appropriate time.
Some lawyers had opined that the practice of parading suspects was illegal and equally discriminatory as only lowly placed criminal suspects are exposed to media parade, and some suspect paraded may be later found innocent but with their reputation would have already been damaged in the long-term.
