In a recent wave of defections, all three Senators from Kebbi State—Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Musa—have left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their defection cited upon internal PDP crises, poor performance in the last elections, and a loss of the party’s original values as reasons for leaving was formally acknowledged in the Senate chamber, with APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris present.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, who dismissed claims that the APC is attempting to create a one-party state or that the Senate is a “rubber stamp” institution, however encouraged more opposition members to consider joining the APC for national progress.
