Anambra State Police have arrested 62-year-old Bernard Odinchefu, alleged informant of a secessionist group and leader of a major extortion ring in Ihiala LGA.
Odinchefu reportedly collected illegal monthly levies from traders and burial fees from families in Isseke and Orsumoghu communities, remitting proceeds to a terrorist commander. Police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad apprehended him on October 1.
The arrest follows a broader crackdown on insurgent-linked activities in the state. In recent raids, police dismantled secessionist camps, rescued kidnapped victims, and recovered weapons and explosives.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring public safety.
