ASUU has criticized the Federal Government for its delayed appeal to stop the union’s planned warning strike, calling the intervention “too late.” ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, said the government ignored a 3-week ultimatum until just two days before the strike.
Piwuna noted that unless urgent action is taken by Sunday, the union will begin a two-week warning strike from October 13. ASUU’s key grievances include delays in renegotiating the 2009 agreement and unresolved issues on funding and staff welfare.
Despite ongoing negotiations, ASUU maintains that only a concrete response from the government can prevent the strike.
