Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has COMMENDED President Bola Tinubu on the “suspension” of Dr.
Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Edu, who was quizzed by the EFCC on Tuesday, had allegedly directed the disbursement of N585milion Grant, meant for Vulnerable Groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Lagos and Ogun States, into a private bank account – after the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, declined the request for such disbursement.
Reacting to the action of President Tinubu, the former Vice President had written however that the suspension was a belated move, as Edu, whom he described as inexperienced in the development sector, had no business being appointed in the first place.
He noted that considering the fact that the previous Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq, is also being probed for N37bn fraud – it was evidence that immediate and urgent actions need to be taken to reform the ministry as a whole.
He recalled that even during the COVID-19 lockdown, Farouq continued to implement the school feeding programme – ridiculously claiming that the food would be delivered to the students at home; since schools were shut.
