BET has indefinitely suspended the BET Hip Hop Awards and Soul Train Awards as it reevaluates its content strategy amid a changing media landscape.

The shows aren’t canceled but paused to explore updates for modern audiences. Meanwhile, the BET Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Stellar Awards will continue.

Viewership of the 2025 BET Awards dropped nearly 50% among 18–49-year-olds, partly due to a date change; the show will return to its traditional late June slot in 2026, along with the BET Festival.

The Soul Train Awards launched in 1987, and the Hip Hop Awards in 2006.
