A Former National and West African light-heavyweight champion, Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju, has died after collapsing during an undercard boxing match in Ghana at the weekend.
Olanrewaju lost consciousness while facing Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League at Bukom Boxing Arena.
He was reportedly leading on points before the tragic incident occurred. Autopsy would begin promptly to determine the cause of death.
The Nigerian Boxing Board of Control President, Raufiu Ladipo, said his body has been in touch with its Ghanaian counterpart to decide the best way to handle the situation, adding that the board will meet tomorrow after which it will brief the press on its findings.
