Brooke Shields is challenging societal beauty standards as she navigates aging with humor and grace. During a recent appearance on Good Morning America, the 59-year-old actress and model shared an incident where a social media comment inspired the title of her new book, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old.
“I was doing an Instagram Live, and someone commented, ‘I really wish you looked the way you used to.’ I couldn’t help but laugh and think, ‘Really?’” Shields said.
Host Lara Spencer advised against reading negative comments online, but Shields explained that she tries to engage positively. “We’re all so out of touch with reality sometimes. We need to find joy in where we are,” she remarked.
Robin Roberts commended Shields for her optimistic perspective on aging. Shields emphasized the importance of celebrating the present and embracing personal growth. “The beauty industry pushes us to chase youth, but I think it’s empowering to acknowledge where we’ve been and embrace where we’re going,” she said. “I may wish things were a little higher and tighter, but I’ve earned every line on my face.”
She also highlighted the new opportunities available to women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, saying, “We’re formidable and fabulous. It’s a time to ask, ‘What do I want to do now?’”
Shields ended on a playful note, quipping, “And we’re not angry!” as she and the hosts celebrated the vitality and vibrancy of women at every age.
