President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima led top dignitaries to Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday to honor former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on July 13, 2025.
Tinubu received Buhari’s flag-draped casket at Katsina Airport around 2 p.m., accompanied by a full military guard of honour and senior officers. The remains were flown on the Presidential Aircraft he used during his presidency.

The burial, conducted by the Chief Imam of Daura, drew international figures including Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló and Niger’s Prime Minister Ali Zeine. Former Nigerian leaders, governors, ministers, lawmakers, security chiefs, and business moguls like Aliko Dangote also attended.
A military hearse transported the casket to Daura for final rites. Over 130 aircraft movements were recorded at the airport due to the high-profile turnout.
Buhari served as military ruler (1983–1985) and civilian president (2015–2023).
