CAF Announces Record $10.4M Prize Pool for 2024 CHAN

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a record $10.4 million prize pool for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), marking a major financial boost for the tournament.

For the first time, the CHAN champions will earn $3.5 million—a 75% increase from the previous $2 million prize. The runner-up will receive $1.2 million, with third and fourth places taking home $700,000 and $600,000, respectively.

Quarter-finalists will each get $450,000, while group-stage teams will earn between $200,000 and $300,000 based on their placement. Every one of the 19 participating teams will receive a share, reflecting CAF’s commitment to supporting all competitors.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe said the prize hike reinforces efforts to grow African football and support locally-based talent. He called CHAN a crucial part of CAF’s strategy to boost the sport’s global appeal.

The 2024 CHAN, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August 2–30, 2025, will feature top teams including Senegal, Morocco, DR Congo, and Nigeria. The Super Eagles return after missing the last edition and will aim for their first title, having reached the final in 2018.
