Coachella has been a mainstay of the festival calendar since 1999, bringing together major names from Madonna to Beyoncé. Since 2012, it has taken place over two three-day weekends in April—except in 2020 and 2021, when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In its first year, Beck, Tool and Rage Against the Machine topped the inaugural bill, highlighting the festival’s rock origins. Over time, artists like Prince, BeyoncĂ© and Lady Gaga have headlined. This year’s headliners include Sabrina Carpenter, Karol G, Anyma and Justin Bieber, who already gave a stellar performance introducing Afrobeats Stars WIZKID and TEMZ for a live rendition of their global smash Hit “Essence”.
The festival has delivered several unforgettable moments, including Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre performing with a hologram of Tupac Shakur in 2012 and Beyoncé’s celebration of Black culture in 2018.
