Nigerians are grappling with another sharp rise in cooking gas prices, with rates hitting ₦2,000–₦3,000 per kilogram in some areas, up from ₦1,200. The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) says the surge is not due to an official price hike but stems from supply disruptions and profiteering by opportunistic marketers.
NALPGAM President Oladapo Olatunbosun explained that a recent strike by PENGASSAN and maintenance at Dangote Refinery disrupted supply, causing delays in product loading and delivery. This led many marketers to switch to Apapa depots, where supply quickly ran dry.
Olatunbosun emphasized that gas prices at registered plants remain between ₦1,000 and ₦1,300 and urged consumers to avoid buying from middlemen. He assured the public that with the strike now over and supply resuming, the situation will normalize in the coming days.
