Former Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has criticized Nigeria’s Super Eagles for their disappointing performance in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers, attributing the failure to poor sports management and leadership.
During a visit to the Emir of Ilorin’s palace in Kwara State, Dalung expressed regret over the team’s decline since his tenure ended six years ago. He noted that despite a historic qualification in 2018, the Super Eagles have struggled to maintain relevance in the qualifiers.
Dalung emphasized that the current leadership and lack of commitment in sports administration are key obstacles. He explained that constant changes in leadership and the disbandment of the Ministry of Sports have hindered the development of football. Dalung expressed doubt that the Super Eagles could regain their former glory without political will and strong leadership.
