Diogo Jota, the Liverpool and Portugal forward, has tragically passed away at the age of 28 following a road accident in Spain.
The fatal collision took place on the A-52 motorway, at kilometre 65, near Palacios de Sanabria in Zamora province.
Born in 1996, Jota was an important player for both Liverpool FC and the Portuguese national team. His sudden death has deeply shocked the football community and fans worldwide.
The Spanish sports newspaper MARCA confirmed the incident on Thursday, reporting that Jota died at the scene of the crash.
“Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota dies in a traffic accident in the province of Zamora,” the publication stated briefly, expressing grief over the loss of the gifted athlete.
Jota was highly praised for his determination, goal-scoring ability, and adaptability on the field.
