The Lagos State Police Command has announced strict restrictions on this year’s Egungun Masquerade Festival. According to the police, all masquerade activities are now confined to designated venues and outing points.
This directive, issued on Sunday through the police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, aims to stop escalating clashes between rival masquerade groups that have recently caused violence and property damage across the state.
The police banned public processions and street marches to protect lives, property, and the rights of other religious groups during the festival period. CSP Hundeyin warned that anyone disrupting the peace or violating laws will face severe consequences.
