Eminem once wanted Mariah Carey to play his mother in 8 Mile, according to music producer Damion “Damizza” Young.

Speaking on the TFU Podcast (June 4), Young claimed the rapper, 52, pitched the idea despite Carey being only four years older. Young, who introduced the two, recalled that Carey was initially hesitant to meet Eminem — until she heard it was for a film role.

At the time, Young was advising Carey against taking the lead in Glitter when he was contacted about Eminem’s offer. Despite Young’s warnings, Eminem allegedly insisted, “I genuinely want her in the movie.”

When the proposal was finally made — that Carey play his mother — Young said she was offended. “Her insecurities kicked in big time,” he recalled.

The role eventually went to actress Kim Basinger, who portrayed Eminem’s troubled mother in the Oscar-winning film.
