The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three men Chukwu Kelvin (25), Kenechukwu Ude (25), and Uche Nwankwo (28) for allegedly vandalising high-voltage power cables in Aninri Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe said the suspects were intercepted by the Distress Response Squad on October 20, 2025, along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway. They were caught transporting stolen aluminium cables hidden under cassava leaves in a white minibus (ENU 450 XK).
Recovered items included a large cable cutter, gloves, and a bag of clothes. The suspects reportedly confessed to removing the cables from electric poles in Oduma community for resale at the New Artisan Market in Enugu.
Commissioner of Police CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling vandalism and urged residents to assist security efforts. The suspects will be charged in court after investigation.
