European leaders will join Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington on Monday for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump. The move comes as Trump pushes for a quick peace deal with Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump recently met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, where sources say both men discussed proposals that could see Ukraine cede part of the eastern Donbas region in return for security guarantees.
European leaders including Germany’s Friedrich Merz, France’s Emmanuel Macron, and Britain’s Keir Starmer say they hope to strengthen Zelensky’s position in the negotiations.
