The Federal Government has granted waivers to hospitals for the employment of health workers as part
of efforts to enhance healthcare delivery in the country.
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Health, revealed this during an official visit to the University
College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan. According to Alausa, medical directors will receive waivers for
employment starting from 2024. The Federal Ministry of Health is establishing a waiver committee to
oversee requests from hospitals, ensuring a streamlined and efficient process.
Alausa assured that the waiver committee would promptly address requests, avoiding delays in the
review process. He emphasized the commitment of the government and the ministry to address
challenges faced by healthcare institutions like UCH.
The minister urged the hospital to explore alternative power sources such as solar energy to address
power supply issues.
Additionally, Alausa encouraged UCH to focus on training more health specialists to meet the evolving
needs of the contemporary health sector. While acknowledging the ongoing efforts of UCH, he
highlighted the government’s commitment to advancing healthcare in the country, with a directive
toward continuous improvement in the sector.
