Federal Government has donated ₦3bn as flood intervention fund to Borno State
following the flood, which has displaced more than one million persons in
Maiduguri, its capital.
The State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, confirmed this while donating
cash to displaced persons taking refuge in the Bakassi IDP camp.
Zulum said food items and other basic necessities will be provided, while vendors
have been contracted to feed the displaced persons in the camp.
He said search and rescue have begun across affected communities to determine
lives lost, while data collation of affected persons will be immediately carried out.
According to the Governor, the state government will constitute a health
committee to look into possible outbreaks of diseases and reconstruct the Alo Dam
to contain more water volume.
