Federal Government has issued a fresh flooding warning to Nigerians; this time from the Jebba Dam.
A statement by the Director General, Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, raised alarm that Jebba Dam is currently spilling excess water, although the agency is working closely with the operators of Kainji and Jebba Dams on the management of the reservoirs.
He therefore called on Nigerians to continue to adhere to flood preparedness protocols, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to the overall flood management in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Senate has asked President Bola Tinubu to order the immediate dredging of Rivers Niger and Benue to prevent flooding and ease its inclusion in the 2025 budget.
This followed the adoption of a motion by Sen. Amos Yohanna on the urgent need for intervention in the crisis caused by flooding in Adamawa North-Senatorial district.
