The Federal Government has withdrawn a criminal complaint against Ms. Comfort Emmanson and reduced penalties for Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (Kwam 1), following recent high-profile airport altercations.
Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo said the decisions came after 48 hours of consultations with aviation stakeholders, noting lessons learned and remorse shown by those involved. Ibom Air will drop its case against Emmanson, and the Airline Operators of Nigeria will lift her lifetime flying ban.
For Kwam 1, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reduced his no-fly ban to one month, after which he will work with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as an ambassador for airport security protocol. The pilots involved in the ValueJet incident, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, will also have their licenses restored after a one-month suspension and mandatory reappraisal.
