Government Rescues Over 1,000 Kidnap Victims Without Ransom Payments – National Security Adviser

News

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, disclosed on Monday that the administration led by President Bola Tinubu has successfully rescued over 1,000 kidnap victims without succumbing to ransom demands.

Ribadu made this assertion while addressing the public following the recent rescue of 22 students and staff from the Federal University of Gusau, Zamfara State.

The harrowing ordeal began on September 22, 2023, when armed bandits stormed the Federal University of Gusau, abducting over 30 students and staff members.

The assailants, numbering around 50 and mounted on motorcycles, wielded sophisticated weaponry as they forcefully took the victims to an undisclosed location. Despite the daunting circumstances, law enforcement agencies swiftly mobilized to counter the threat.

In a coordinated effort, security forces managed to rescue seven students initially, with two others bravely escaping captivity. However, the fate of 22 individuals remained uncertain until recently.

On Sunday, a joint operation led by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre culminated in the liberation of the remaining hostages. Among the rescued were 15 students and seven university staff members, all of whom were reunited with their families.

Expressing his gratitude to the security operatives involved, the National Security Adviser commended their dedication and professionalism, emphasizing that no lives were lost during the rescue operation, and no ransom payments were made.
