The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has said the Commission will set up a joint committee with the Nigerian Air Force to tackle logistics challenges associated with the conduct of elections in the country.
Amupitan who disclosed this in Abuja while receiving the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke, during a courtesy visit to the Commission today in Abuja, said the committee would strengthen collaboration between both institutions ahead of upcoming elections, particularly the 2027 general election.
He also disclosed that the Commission would soon conduct governorship elections in Ekiti State in June and Osun State on August 15 this year, describing both polls as crucial ahead of the 2027 general election.
Responding, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Aneke, assured INEC of the Nigerian Air Force’s readiness to continue supporting electoral operations across the country, He added that the Air Force was already taking steps to ensure its aircraft and other logistics platforms were fully prepared ahead of future elections. He further stated that the Air Force could deploy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms, including drones and unmanned aerial vehicles, to assist in monitoring election activities.
