The Presidency has assured Nigerians that inflation is on a downward trend and will soon reach a single-digit figure. Speaking in an interview, Special Adviser to the Presidency on Economic Matters, Tope Fasua, highlighted that the recent decline in inflation has started to ease prices of food items across markets, bringing some relief to consumers.
This optimism follows new figures from the National Bureau of Statistics, which reported that Nigeria’s inflation rate fell to 20.12 percent in August 2025 from 21.88 percent in July.
Fasua also addressed criticisms from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who claimed Nigerians were dying of hunger. Fasua dismissed Atiku’s comments as politically motivated and urged Nigerians to focus on the positive economic progress.
The President’s adviser also noted the strengthening of the naira, which recently traded around N1,400 to the dollar for the first time in months, and rising crude oil prices as factors supporting the improving economic outlook.
