Israel has announced the killing of Abu Obeida, the spokesman for Hamas’s armed wing, in an aerial strike in Gaza City.
Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz praised the Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet security agency for what he described as a “flawless execution” of the operation.
Hamas has yet to confirm Obeida’s death but previously condemned Israeli airstrikes on a residential building in Gaza, claiming dozens of civilians were killed or injured.
Local reports say at least seven people died and 20 were wounded in the al-Rimal neighborhood, including children. This strike comes as Israel prepares for a larger offensive in Gaza City.
Katz warned that more senior Hamas figures would be targeted as the campaign intensifies, following an Israeli plan to seize control of the city.
