Health sector unions under JOHESU have mobilised members for a nationwide protest in Abuja over the proposed Health Sector Executive Bills 2026.
The protest, scheduled for Thursday, March 26, will see healthcare workers gather at Unity Fountain before heading to the National Assembly Complex. The unions say the bills, which have passed first reading in the Senate, could alter professional roles, existing structures, and welfare conditions.
JOHESU directed affiliate unions to ensure mass participation, warning that the legislation may have far-reaching consequences for the sector. National Secretary Martin Egbanubi said the protest aims to raise public awareness about the potential impact of the bills.
The action comes amid ongoing tensions in Nigeria’s health sector, driven by concerns over salaries, welfare, and governance. Experts also warn that workforce shortages, poor infrastructure, and the continued migration of health professionals are worsening pressure on the system.
