Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that midfielder Jorginho is “recovering well” from a lung injury and may play again before the season ends.
The 33-year-old last featured on April 12 in a 1-1 draw against Brentford, where he was substituted late due to a suspected chest injury. Ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Bournemouth, Arteta provided an update, stating: “It got a bit more complicated than expected, but he’s fine and recovering well.”
Although Arsenal has not officially disclosed the exact nature of Jorginho’s injury, sources suggest it could be a punctured lung. Arteta remains hopeful that the Italian could return to action if his recovery continues smoothly over the next week.
Jorginho, who is in the final weeks of his Arsenal contract, is expected to depart the club before next season. Since joining from Chelsea in January 2023 for £12m, he has made 78 appearances for the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Kai Havertz is also progressing in his recovery from hamstring surgery after sustaining a serious muscle tear during Arsenal’s winter training in Dubai. Initially expected to miss the rest of the season, Havertz is now on track to feature before the campaign concludes, which would provide a timely boost ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.
