The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested five youths including a bride, groom, and three witnesses for conducting a marriage without parental consent and below Islamic dowry standards.
Deputy Commander General Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen said the ₦10,000 dowry fell short of Islamic legal requirements, making the union invalid. An investigation is underway.
He urged parents to monitor their children’s social activities, especially on marriage matters.
This comes as the Kano government prepares a mass wedding for 2,000 couples, with mandatory registration and health screening announced by the board.
