The Kano State Government has directed the Hisba Board to begin preparations for a mass wedding involving 2,000 couples. According to Deputy Commander-General Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen, the initiative, approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, aims to support widows, divorcees, and low-income families.
Prospective couples must register and complete mandatory health screenings, including tests for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, genotype, and drug use. Failure to undergo screening results in disqualification.
The mass wedding programme, recently reintroduced by the current administration, seeks to reduce social vices such as prostitution and assist families unable to afford marriage costs.
