A brush fire north of Los Angeles has burned nearly 5,000 acres and forced evacuations in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, displacing 2,700 residents, officials said Friday. Around 400 personnel are working to contain the blaze, which remains 0% contained.
It comes as firefighters continue battling California’s largest wildfire of the year, which has scorched over 99,000 acres in the Los Padres National Forest. LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger urged residents in Santa Clarita, Hasley Canyon, and Val Verde to follow evacuation orders amid extreme heat and dry conditions.
The fire follows a July blaze that burned 70,000 acres, raising concerns over an intense wildfire season. Swiss Re recently reported $135 billion in global disaster-related losses in the first half of the year, partly driven by the LA fires.
