Ongoing negotiations on new minimum wage has been adjourned till today Wednesday after the organised labour rejected the new minimum wage proposal by the Federal Government.
Government upped its offer from its earlier proposed N48,000 to match the N54,000 proposed by the Organised Private sector last week, but a highly reliable source who attended the meeting but asked not to be named, said the government’s side was not showing any sign of seriousness, even as state governors did not show up to yesterday’s negotiation meeting, while those who represented them, like Bauchi and Niger states, did not have the mandates to speak on their behalf.
Organised labour had on Monday reiterated its May 31, 2024 deadline for the implementation of the new minimum wage, and did not indicate readiness to shift from their minimum wage demand of N615,000.
