Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, congratulated Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, on her election as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association. Describing her victory as a proud moment for the legal profession and an inspiration to young women across Lagos and Nigeria.
The governor mentioned Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence as the second female president in the history of the NBA was a testament to her decades of dedication, professionalism and commitment to the rule of law.
“Congratulations to Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her historic election as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association. Becoming only the second female president in the history of the NBA is no small feat and is a well deserved milestone. Over the years, she has built a reputation for excellence, legal precision and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law. Her rise to the leadership of the bar reflects decades of hard work and relentless dedication to justice.” The Governor said.
She was also encouraged by The Governor. “On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I wish her a successful and impactful term in office,” he added.
Badejo-Okusanya emerged victorious in the NBA’s(Nigerian Bar Association) 2026 national officers’ election after polling 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast, to defeat her closest challenger, Lateef Akangbe, SAN, who secured 7,934 votes.
She will serve a two-year term from 2026 to 2028, succeeding outgoing President Afam Osigwe. The first female NBA president was Priscilla Kuye, who led the association between 1991 and 1992.
