‎Lagos Imams Urge Restraint Amid US–Israel–Iran Crisis

The League of Imams and Alfas has called on Nigerians to refrain from actions capable of disrupting peaceful coexistence following tensions triggered by the US–Israel–Iran crisis.

‎The advisory follows protests in parts of the country over the reported killing of Ali Khamenei during recent US-Israeli strikes on Iran.

‎The call was made during the 2026 Ramadan Tafsir programme held at Lagos House, Ikeja.

‎Speaking on behalf of the guild, Chief Missioner of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ahmad, urged citizens to embrace prayer over protest.

‎He said, “This is a time for prayer, a time to be part of peace, not a time for protest and demonstration.”

‎Ahmad warned that global tensions could worsen Nigeria’s economic situation, adding, “Chances are that fuel could even hit 2,000 Naira per litre if the crisis escalates.”

‎He cautioned that unrest could spiral, saying, “It may be the beginning of the Third World War, except we face it with prayer and sober reflection.

‎The cleric noted that past protests, including the End SARS protests, resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.

‎He therefore urged religious leaders to preach peace from their pulpits, stressing, “If we cannot be part of the solution, we should not be part of the problem.”
