LeBron James has become the first player in NBA history to score 50,000 career points, further cementing his legacy as the league’s all-time leading scorer. The Los Angeles Lakers star hit the milestone on Tuesday against the New Orleans Pelicans with a 25-foot three-pointer, bringing his total to 50,002 points.

James, now 40, had already surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing regular-season record in 2023. He now leads Abdul-Jabbar by nearly 6,000 points, with Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan trailing behind. Among active players, only Kevin Durant, with over 35,000 points, ranks in the top 10.
Lakers legend Magic Johnson congratulated James, calling him “the King” in a tribute on X. Earlier in the day, James also set another record as the oldest player to win an NBA Player of the Month award. His outstanding February performance—averaging 29.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 6.9 assists—helped the Lakers secure a 10-2 record and climb to second in the Western Conference.
