Former Super Eagles interim head coach, Monday Sinclair, has died at the age of 88.
His death was confirmed on Wednesday by ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper Peterside Idah, who played under Sinclair at Sharks FC and considered him a mentor. In a Facebook tribute, Idah recalled Sinclair giving him his debut against Niger Tornadoes and described him as a father figure.
Sinclair, a former Green Eagles player in the 1960s, was known for his eye for talent and major contributions to Nigerian football development. He began coaching with the now-defunct Sharks FC before managing Niger Tornadoes, Enugu Rangers, and Bayelsa United.
In 1997, he served as interim coach of the Super Eagles and later led the Equatorial Guinea national team.
Throughout his career, Sinclair mentored notable players such as Peter Rufai, Taribo West, Finidi George, and Peterside Idah. His influence at the grassroots level left a lasting impact on Nigerian football.
His death comes shortly after the passing of another football legend, Peter Rufai, following a long illness.
