Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday in response to a summons.
Her lead counsel, West Idahosa (SAN), confirmed her appearance but noted uncertainty over whether the Federal Government intends to formally arraign her that day. He emphasized that Akpoti-Uduaghan, as a law-abiding citizen, will comply with the court’s orders regardless.
The Federal Government, through the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mohammed Abubakar, filed criminal charges accusing the senator of making defamatory remarks during both a live television interview and a private phone call.
According to court filings dated May 16, 2025, and registered under case number CR/297/25 at the FCT High Court, Akpoti-Uduaghan allegedly claimed during an April 3, 2025, broadcast on Channels TV’s Politics Today that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello had conspired to have her assassinated.
