General Brice Oligui Nguema has been sworn in as president of Gabon after winning 94.85% of votes in the April 12 election.
Nguema had seized power in a coup nearly two years ago, ending the Bongo dynasty’s 50-year rule.
His inauguration at the weekend was attended by several African leaders, and he has vowed to tackle corruption and improve healthcare, infrastructure, and job opportunities for Gabon’s 2.3 million people, many of whom live in poverty despite the country’s oil wealth.
