Renowned Kenyan writer and academic Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o has passed away at the age of 87. 

A titan of modern African literature, Ngũgĩ was known for his powerful storytelling and his advocacy for literature written in native African languages.

Throughout his career, Ngũgĩ wrote numerous critically acclaimed novels, plays, and essays that explored the complexities of colonialism and post-colonial Kenya. His notable works include “Weep Not, Child,” “A Grain of Wheat,” and “Petals of Blood.”

Ngũgĩ’s legacy extends beyond his own writing. He was a fierce advocate for the use of native languages in literature and challenged the dominance of European languages in African writing.
