Nigeria is increasing local production of weapons and military equipment. The aim is to meet the country’s own security needs and start exporting to other nations by next year.
Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, told a ministerial briefing today in Abuja that 53 companies have signed MoUs with the Ministry of Defence to locally manufacture military hardware.
Abubakar also assured that Nigeria is actively confronting external threats and cutting off foreign influence in domestic security crises.
Referring to regional conflicts and spillover threats from countries like Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Chad, the Minister of Defence said Nigeria’s security response has been robust, calling for more collaborative efforts to address these challenges.
Earlier, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, appealed to media professionals to avoid giving undue publicity to terrorists and criminals. He said terror groups manipulate media and social platforms to spread fear and recruit followers.
