FG, Private Sector Partner on Multi-Billion Naira Creative Arena

The Federal Government is partnering with Private investors to develop the MEFA Abuja Arena — a multi-billion naira project designed to transform Nigeria’s creative and cultural landscape.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the 4,000-capacity facility in Abuja, the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, who decried the absence of proper infrastructure which has long hindered the growth of Nigeria’s creative industry, described the initiative as a “sanctuary for creativity” and “a stage for talent.”

She said the MEFA Arena would provide a platform for both local expression and global collaboration, urging donors and stakeholders to support the project.

On his part, the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Obi Asika, explained that while the government is providing the land, private partners will finance, build, and operate the facility under lease with an option for renewal. He also revealed that the venue will host programs to support emerging talents.

Earlier, the founder of MEFA, Yinka Obebe, expressed confidence in the timely completion of the project. He said the arena will accommodate between 4,000 and 5,000 guests and is estimated to cost several billions of naira. Obebe reaffirmed their commitment to meeting set targets and starting the project with full optimism.
