Former U.S. President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have addressed persistent rumors about their marriage.
Appearing together on the “IMO” podcast hosted by Michelle’s brother, Craig Robinson, on Wednesday, the couple joked about public speculation. When Robinson noted it was nice to have them in the same room, Michelle replied, “I know, because when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.”
Barack said he often misses such rumors entirely. “Somebody will mention it to me, and I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’” he said.
Michelle reaffirmed their bond, stating, “There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I’ve thought about quitting on my man… I’ve become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
She previously addressed similar rumors during an NPR interview, noting that just because the public doesn’t see them together constantly doesn’t mean there’s trouble. “The fact that people don’t see me going out on a date with my husband sparks rumors,” she said.
The Obamas, married since 1992, have two daughters, Malia and Sasha, and have been together for over 30 years.
