The Obidient Movement has declared that the 2027 presidency should stay in the South, backing Peter Obi as best placed to complete the region’s remaining term. Its National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, said the group rejects calls for Obi to step aside, stressing equity and democratic fairness.
The stance comes amid rising opposition maneuvering following Obi’s exit from the Labour Party and the 2027 declaration by his former running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed. Tanko’s comments underscore growing tension within the opposition as debates over zoning, consensus, and leadership intensify ahead of the next general election.
