The Ondo State Police have brought an 80-year-old prince, Adefusi Adebisi, before a Magistrates’ Court on allegations of willfully destroying property and disturbing public order.
Prince Adebisi, a resident of Bolorunduro in Ondo East Local Government Area, is accused of unlawfully entering land owned by Reverend David Akinadewo-Adekahunsi and damaging economic trees valued at ₦247 million. The alleged incident took place on November 25, 2024, in Omilosu, near Bolorunduro, with others involved who remain at large.
During the court proceedings (Charge No. MBD/8C/2025), Police Prosecutor H. A. Olagbaju charged Adebisi with conspiracy, malicious damage, and trespass—offenses likely to incite public unrest.
The charges include:
- Conspiracy to commit forcible entry and property destruction, violating Section 516 of the Ondo State Criminal Code (2006).
- Willful destruction of plantain, cocoa, kolanut, and palm trees worth ₦247 million, punishable under Section 451.
- Trespassing in a manner that could cause public disorder, in breach of Section 81.
Adebisi denied all charges. His lawyer, E. O. Edo, pleaded for bail, highlighting his client’s presumed innocence and commitment to attending court sessions.
Presiding Magistrate Mrs. Mike Akinbola granted bail at ₦10 million, requiring two sureties of equal sum. The sureties must present an affidavit of means, tax clearance for two years, proof of residence within the court’s jurisdiction, and their National Identification Numbers (NIN).
The case was adjourned to March 5, 2025, with orders for the prosecution to submit all necessary evidence before the next hearing.
