Lone Survivor of Air India Crash Describes Terrifying Escape
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British national, has emerged as the only known survivor of the catastrophic Air India crash in Ahmedabad that claimed the lives of 241 passengers and crew.
Currently receiving treatment at a hospital in the city, Ramesh recounted the horrifying chain of events to doctors and media. Shortly after takeoff, he says the aircraft began an abrupt descent before splitting apart midair and crashing into a residential building. The impact reportedly blew off the emergency door next to his seat, ejecting him moments before the aircraft burst into flames.

“I thought I was going to die,” Ramesh told Indian broadcaster Doordarshan. “But when I opened my eyes and realized I was alive, I unbuckled my seatbelt and crawled out. Two crew members died right in front of me.”
Dr. Dhaval Gameti, who treated Ramesh, described him as disoriented and suffering from multiple injuries but in stable condition. “He appears to be out of danger,” the doctor said.
Eyewitness footage from the scene shows Ramesh, bloodied and visibly shaken, walking away from the wreckage before being taken to hospital. He had been traveling from India to London, where he lives with his wife and child.
